The Good Shepherd

The king of love my shepherd is, whose goodness faileth never,
I nothing lack if I am His, and He is mine forever.
(Henry Williams Baker)

Greetings dear family of our beloved Saviour Jesus Christ, may Jesus permeate your heart with effusions of His divine grace. Amen.

Once again we come together to share the beauty of our faith, join in fellowship, and uphold each other in prayer. What a beautiful and glorious thing it is to have faith; of all God’s gifts, the gift of faith is the most precious. In faith we enter into a personal relationship with Almighty God, we acknowledge our littleness and ask for His divine help to restore our fallen nature and raise us up to the dignity of becoming His children once more. “To all who received Him, who believed in His name, He gave power to become children of God.” (John 1:12) Isn’t that amazing! – We are given the power to become children of God.

My favourite quote from the Bible is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” No matter how many times I read these words or hear them spoken, they always have an effect upon my heart. “For God so loved the world that He gave…” He gave us Jesus! First, to be the spotless lamb “that takes away the sins of the world,” then to be our “Good Shepherd” who gathers us into His flock, and then to be “The Bread of Life” with which He feeds our souls. God has also given us the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to live within us. Jesus said, “If a man loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and WE will come to him and make OUR home with him.” (John 14:23) Can you imagine Almighty God coming to dwell within you? – It is awesome! This is the beauty of the Christian faith: God humbles Himself, takes the form of man and then imparts to us His divine nature to transform our lives from within.

Finally, Jesus becomes the Bridegroom, and we His church, have become the Bride. Through His love and tender grace we are now able to proclaim,

“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall exalt in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” (Isaiah 61:10)

Praise be Jesus!!!
