On Truth

“I am the way, the truth and the life”. (John 14:6)

Greetings dear family of our beloved Saviour Jesus Christ; may the Holy Spirit live within the center of your heart, that you may always witness to the light of truth, that is Jesus Christ. Amen.
Jesus said, “For this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” (John 18:37) Pilate asked, “What is truth?” He did not know the truth because he could not recognise Jesus for who He was. Jesus not only claimed to speak the truth, but to BE the truth. “I AM the way, THE TRUTH and the life.” (John 14:6) And He told us that this truth would “set us free” (John 8:32). It is Jesus…the truth…who sets us free!

St. John tells us, “In the beginning was the Word” (John 1:1) “And the Word WAS God” (V1) “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and TRUTH.” (V14). Jesus was the TRUTH made flesh. John also tells us that Jesus was, “The TRUE light that enlightens every man” (John 1:9) The truth is not an abstract or a theory it is a person – Jesus! It is not easy to love a theory or an abstract, but it is easy to love a person – the person of Jesus! And so it is in this way that God makes it easy for us to be able to love the truth.

Not everyone can see truth, like Pilate, many still remain blind. As I was writing my letter and thinking about this fact, my eyes were drawn to the telescope in the corner of my bedroom (I bird watch from my window). I looked at the scope and thought: To see the truth, like looking through a scope, you must first point your sight in the right direction, then you have to focus hard – in other words – study what you see! The devil will have many looking in the wrong direction, he is the father of lies and he loves chaos and confusion.

One man alone – Jesus, has fulfilled all the prophecies of the Old Testament that point to the Messiah! John the Baptist proclaimed one man alone to be the Messiah! And God the Father acknowledged one man alone when He said, “This is My beloved Son…” (Matt 3:27). The supernatural miracles that Jesus performed – and that His followers still perform today, in His name, all point to the TRUTH that Jesus Christ is the one true God, made man, to deliver us from our sins, and to open the gates of Heaven that we may be reunited with our Father.

For those Christians who have Jesus living within their hearts, who develop a personal and intimate relationship with Him, none of the above proofs are necessary. They no longer require evidence of Christ’s supremacy because they themselves become the evidence, in living a life of virtue and becoming for the world a witness to that ” TRUE light that enlightens every man.”

We give thanks to You, Lord Jesus, and we praise You,
because, through You, the Spirit of Truth has entered our world. Amen.
